Our Foster Program

Fostering Saves Lives

Kitten season is upon us! Hundreds of pregnant moms, moms and litters, and orphaned litters will be turned into Animal Care and Control over the next few months. You can literally save their lives. Become a foster caregiver with Friends! You can choose the type of animal (dogs, cats, kittens, puppies) you are willing to care for! Medical care is covered and we can help with food and formula too.

The Dog Without a Name
by Nette Martino

We walked through the rows of homeless dogs at Animal Care and Control. As a volunteer at the shelter, I'm no stranger to the pleading eyes of animals looking for a second chance. My boyfriend and I were basically ready to have taken any animal in need of fostering. Then we noticed a cage card listing only an inventory number and description. Female, tan, pittie mix, 1 yr old. It took much coaxing to get her out of the cage to meet her. However, it took only few minutes before we caught a glimpse of a quick tail wag. We immediately bonded with this sweet girl and took her home a few days later. Since she didn't have a name, we wanted to see her personality before we decided on one. She paced our home for hours before she finally laid down and rested her head on her very own blanket.  A beautiful look of peace, relief, and gratitude was on her face. We decided to call her Bella. It's only been  a few weeks, but fostering Bella has already brought so much joy to our lives. We can only hope that we have done the same for her.

A Second Chance for Wanda

Wanda arrived at the shelter as a 7-year-old owner give-up.  She's not just any 7-year-old; Wanda is a special needs kitty whose front legs are shorter than normal and bent at odd angles, making them mostly dysfunctional.  Wanda's differences don't stop her though!  She scoots all around using her back legs to propel her. FCACC was touched by her beauty and determination, and placed her in a foster home where she would be safe and cared for while she awaited a forever home.  Wanda found her way into the hearts of her new loving moms, Donna and Kathryn.  Donna works for an organization that helps people with disabilities, and was touched by Wanda's story.  Wanda now shares a very loving home with 3 adoring moms, 3 other cats and 2 rescue dogs.
